Ellen Kadden

Ellen Kadden, 65, retired La Leche League Leader, certified lactation consultant, and special education teacher, died after dealing with the long illness of leukemia. She is survived by her husband, her daughter, and two sons. Ellen loved babies, skating, the University of Connecticut women's basketball, dogs, and the beach at Groton Long Point, Connecticut, where she spent her happiest days. LLL Alumnae member, Harriet Smiley, recalls that Ellen was a long time LLL Leader in Connecticut. "Ellen's youngest child, Peter, was born at 25 weeks gestation. She helped educate the neonatal intensive care unit staff at Yale New Haven Hospital about how to support mothers of premature babies before how to provide support was well-known." Later, as an LLL Leader, she was a involved with the LLL Professional Liaison Department in LLL Connecticut. "She was also in one of the early women, if not in the first class of students, who became International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. She was an amazing women, who will be greatly missed."
