Ann Cagigas

Ann Cecilia Gaffney Cagigas was born on April 15, 1948 in New York City. She was married to Jaime Javier Cagigas for 40 years. Together they had three children and five grandchildren. After graduating from the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing, she became a registered nurse in 1969, and later earned a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She dedicated her life to helping people.

In 1981 she became an accredited La Leche League (LLL) Leader. Breastfeeding became one of her greatest passions as she helped mothers and babies and was a mentor to many in the breastfeeding community. In 2011, she retired from LLL leadership. In true Ann fashion, she diligently pursued further education to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). The last 13 years of her professional career were spent as an occupational health nurse at the General Services Administration, an independent agency of the United States government. For 38 years, Ann was also involved her in numerous groups at her local parish church and became a Eucharist Minister in 2006.

After dealing with a cancer diagnosis, she passed away in Lorton, Virginia USA on June 19, 2015 at the age of 67. In lieu of flowers, Ann's wishes were for donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
